The KEDIVIM of the Ionian University organizes a training program entitled "Understanding Turkey through Elements of Language, Culture and Society" from 12 October 2020 to 25 June 2021 with Associate Professor George Michalakopoulos (Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting) as the Scientific Coordinator.

Innovation of the programme

In a modern world characterized by intense mobility and interaction, the training program aspires to fill a gap in the education of those who study and analyze Turkey.

However, the study and analysis, in the context of this programme, of the dynamics inherent in this state will not be carried out in a "static" way but through a multidisciplinary approach in which three factors are intertwined: the excellent learning of the Turkish language, the study of the socio-political phenomena that characterize the functioning and behavior of the Turkish state and, finally, the recognition and study of these behaviors, in the form of "reflection", in texts and speeches.

Conditions of participation

For participation in the first cycle of courses, the possession of specialized knowledge is not considered necessary, but it is desirable to have basic knowledge of International Relations, Political Science, Sociology or related subjects. For participation in Cycles 2 and 3, a good knowledge of Turkish language is desirable, either as a continuation of the courses taken during Cycle 1 or as a previously acquired knowledge. In the latter case, proof of this will be provided or an examination will be held to certify the language level.

Certification

According to the current legislation, the Programme provides a mark of two (2) points for appointment in Education (according to the Government Gazette A 13 / 29.01.2019 and Law 4589/2019) (article 58, 1, ji) or half (0.5) point for any education executive (according to the Government Gazette A 102 / 12.06.2018 and Law 4547/2018) (article 24, 2d, bb).

Total duration of the programme: 8.5 months, 412 hours, 27.5ECTS. The teaching will be conducted in Greek language and will be implemented through the use of "mixed mode" teaching (face-to-face and Modern and/or Asynchronous Tele-education).

The programme is addressed to every citizen, regardless of his/her professional occupation, who is interested either in combining the acquisition of a fully specialised "picture" of today's Turkey with the parallel learning of the Turkish language or in preparing and creating a suitable basis for competitions, examinations in various institutions, participation in undergraduate or postgraduate programmes, or for professional reorientation.
