Definitions – Necessity

"Lifelong learning"
All forms of lifelong learning activities aim at the acquisition or development of knowledge, skills and competences which contribute to the formation of an integrated personality, to the professional integration and development of the individual, to social cohesion, to the development of the capacity for active citizenship and to social, economic and cultural development. It includes formal education, non-formal education and informal learning.

"Distance learning" means
Training in which learners study face-to-face with appropriately designed learning materials, whether in paper form or in audiovisual or digital form, accompanied by a comprehensive study guide, while being supported, guided and assessed by a mentor trainer.

"Distance e-learning"
Training which takes place synchronously or asynchronously on a specially designed e-learning platform, through which learners study at their own time, place and pace appropriately designed learning material posted on the platform, while being supported, guided and assessed by a mentor trainer.

"Blended distance learning"
Training in which face-to-face training is combined with distance e-learning or distance learning.

"Informal learning"
Learning activities that take place outside an organised educational setting, throughout a person's life, in the context of leisure, professional, social and cultural activities. It includes all kinds of self-learning activities, such as self-learning through printed material or via the Internet or using a computer or a variety of educational infrastructures, as well as knowledge, skills and competences acquired by the individual through work experience.
